google's ian """""hixie""""" hickson demonstrates his management skills:spritzing the vocal minority
To be honest I think that the accessibility expertise of the WAI group is far more important here than what little HTML engineering expertise I and others may have. In this particular instance, for example, I really have no idea how to truly make canvas accessible (short of the solution that is already in HTML5, which you have pointed out can best be described as a primitive example of "bolt on" accessibility). read it

You really sell yourself short Ian, IMHO your knowledge and understanding of accessibility to be on par or greater than many of the so called experts (including myself), and IMHO your HTML engineering expertise far exceeds any of those people involved in the WAI groups, that I know of (including myself). So IMHO and in conversations with the people you ccd on the email, it is agreed we really need you to lead the development of an improved canvas API, but of course we will help where we can. read it

It's common knowledge that Google's Ian 'hixie' hickson is partial to taking a dump in public (except when he deems it politic to give a private performance to his vendor boys), recent events have revealed a disturbing escalation in this pathology:
dump > step
So let me re-ask my question: if a browser vendor has an installed base of greater than "a percent or so", and they flat-out state they will not implement, e.g. all the new input types in HTML5, will you take them out of the spec?

Actually, the W3C's licensing rules prohibit this kind of thing.
The restriction makes some sense. Otherwise, someone could unilaterally bump HTML's version number, which would be an act of social violence.[1] I am in favor of licensing the body of the HTML5 spec the spec under the most liberal terms, but I wouldn't want the license to allow titling derivative works in a way that would allow them to be confused with the IETF/W3C series of HTML specifications.
Easy for you to say - Mozilla is much less likely to get sued than vendors with deeper pockets.
sayrer sez:
Never utter this kind of garbage in the group again. No one should tolerate this stuff from an MPEG-LA member.
maciej, visibly shaken by the ferocity of sayres outburst sez:
Rob, I don't think this kind of language is appropriate for the public- html mailing list.
with no sympathy for maciej's perilous physical and mental condition sayrer continues the onslaught:
which word are you objecting to? "garbage" or "stuff"?
