HTML5 bible

Consensus is a sin

The HTML5 work isn’t using the traditional W3C approach, and will never use a consensus approach so long as I am editor. Consensus simply isn’t a good way to get technically solid specifications, and is in any case basically impossible to achieve in a group with hundreds of participants such as this one.

Heresy
Ian, you have a history of making overly broad statements that are mostly, but not completely, true; this is one of them. Repeating such statements don’t make them any more true.

Two ears, one vote

Ians ears are open to all, but his decisions concerning the HTML5 specification are his alone. How many times does he have to say it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having said that, as editor I'm not actually aiming for consensus. Consensus simply isn't a good way to get technically solid specifications, and is in any case basically impossible to achieve in a group with hundreds of participants such as this one.

Hixie writes the HTML5 theme tune and sings the HTML5 theme tune...
Ian essentially acts *both* as editor and decision-maker, which is, as far as I can tell, a very uncommon setup.

Irony monger
Hixie: i was utterly baffled by roy's e-mail where he point blank stated that he's cleverer than everybody else and that's why i should listen to him and ignore everyone else

Mr last week sez: He is suprised that philip the WHAT WG teamster rebel has not made a comment on the irony of Hixies statement, as Hixie's leadership of the HTML5 regime relies upon an infallible belief by his apostles that Hixie is cleverer than all comers and therefore everyone should listen to him and ignore everyone else.

WHAT WG house boy - back on the job

Hixie: personally i just wish that the chairs would stop in and make some sort of process statement

Wake up and smell the WHAT WG

But if the W3C HTML WG can't decide about what's in an W3C spec and what's not, why do we have it in the first place? If the only desire is to slap a W3C label on something that is somebody else's activity, we should be clear about it.

Mr Last week sez: Julian it's clear to all, what you describe is the case, except those dupes who think the W3C still has some relevance to HTML5 and therefore keep shoveling money into the W3C junket bucket.
